Heyhey,
I'm excited to be able to join the Alpha. Been keeping an eye on Figment for a while and couldn't believe it when a key was in the Itch.io bundle, just found it while exploring the lists.
Guess I should try introducing myself. Call me Fel, I'm an artist, animator and video game fanatic. I have a love of all things nature and animals, recently been watching a nest of pigeons hatch in the tree by my window.
Art wise I am normally a digital based artist but since the pandemic I've started branching out to traditional mediums. Gouache and coloured pencils being my go-to for now. I also CG model and 3D print which I find magical, being able to hold a physical object that was created on PC. Often I am drawing or modelling animals, dragons and furry characters.
As a gamer I have favourites in most genres but often love farming-sims, character raising games and RPGs. I also adore atmosphere heavy horror games but am an absolute wimp, not sure how this happened but leaves me desperate to play scary games that scare me too much to want to play them :D
Pleased to be here and hope to have fun.

Hi Fel! Sorry to bust in here a couple days late, haha. I hope that you've been enjoying Figment in the meantime!
Wow a nest by your window sounds so cool. o: How are the pigeons doing?
Gouache seems very cool! It's exciting that you've had an opportunity to explore new mediums~ And I agree, 3D modelling and printing really is pretty magical.
I'd love to see some of your work, if you want to share it either in the Art Share board on this forum or in the art channel of our Discord server. c:

Hello Entropy,
Just saw you'd replied XD Was surprised I didn't get a notice but guess I'm not watching the thread?
Looks like the pigeons have fledged. They must have been older than I thought, but did get a lovely moment when there was a storm where the mum and dad huddled together on the nest. Was really sweet but my family didn't agree XD
That sounds an idea, joined the Discord but keep forgetting to check it out further.

Welcome to Figment, Fel!! :D
Do you have any particular favorite video games??
It's pretty impressive to me that you're able to go back to traditional art after being a digital artist for so long :0

Thank you :D
My top five would be Silent Hill 2, Persona (the whole series), Okami, Subnautica and Rune Factory 4. Those are like my best-of-best games that I always return to XD
It's not been quick but surprised how some of it came back after years of not doing traditional art. Been trying to get out of a major art block and wanted to find the fun in drawing again.
Here's a few examples of digital, coloured pencil and gouache.

WOAH!!!! That's REALLY good art!! I love the colored pencil one especially, it's so pretty :0!!
I used to be mainly a traditional artist, when I was younger, but ever since I got a fancy drawing tablet I find it hard to go back (there's no CTRL-Z in real life..)
Also I love Silent Hill 1 and 3, haven't watched 2 yet and I'm afraid of watching.. Shattered Memories? 'Cause it could be upsetting TwT What's Silent Hill 2 like??

Thank you -blush-
Oh Ctrl-Z is both a blessing and curse XD I've gotten more confident on traditional work as I have to adapt what I'm doing for mistakes or to restart; which often results in a better piece. Just sucks when it's so far in and my desire for strong line art led to me messing up a great piece T_T Have to learn a sense of 'This is done' which I didn't have in digital as I can noodle forever.
I also want to learn airbrushing and hand painting for my 3D printing :D
Shattered Memories is good but I didn't find it as scary. You're only in danger at set points which leaves exploration as calmer.
For me Silent Hill 2 is the best use of atmosphere and environment design in horror gaming. I have never been more scared and uneasy in a game before or since and few have left such a lasting impression for me. Of course a lot of this is probably nostalgia XD I fear they will remake it one day and not sure new hardware will give it same feeling. The low details on the PS2 made the creatures more confusing and strange to look at, which is lost in newer games. I'd recommend watching a let's play of it :D

That's completely fair - when I do rarely do traditional art I use a pencil sketch n then Sharpies to line... and then I color it digitally, because I have no actual traditional coloring stuff =v=; At least I can touch up lineart before coloring then ^_^
Also, I actually don't mind the Silent Hill 1 graphics much, mostly bc I'm a nerd who likes retro design? It's pretty impressive how much they jammed into a little game, using pixel-perfect models and baked in lighting for environment textures... so I think I'll find Silent Hill 2 a good balance between retro and almost-modern :0
