I have heard plenty, because my sleep habits are terrible. ^^;;
Schedule: Go to sleep at the same time each night.
Atmosphere: Only use your bed for sleep so that your mind and body associate bed with sleep.
Preparation: Try to avoid screens and beverages for 30+min before bed. This gives your eyes time to relax, helps you avoid caffeine and sugar, and keeps you from waking up to use the washroom.
My personal favourite tip for falling asleep as a dreamer is to daydream. It's easier to transition into sleep with an active brain if you work *with* it instead of against it. ;)

1. Try to wear yourself out physically. This will trigger a need to rest and you'll fall asleep more easily. Light exercises for about 30 mins should help.
2. No screens at least 30 mins before bed, and deffo don't eat/drink heavy stuff as well. Water and/or fruits if you really feel peckish, else avoid food, especially those loaded with carbs & sugar. (I am guilty of snacking a lot late at night, but this is what I'm working towards ^^)
3. Take a warm bath/shower! It relaxes the muscles.
4. Music/scents — play a soothing instrumental tune on loop (and you can set it to turn off using a timer too), or even add a pleasant scent like lavender through a humidifier (a small jug of warm water with scent oils works too.)
5. An hour/two before bed, don't load your mind with heavy topics, especially if you're prone to overthinking. Watch some cute animal videos instead!
6. Consistent bedtimes and waking times greatly help in setting a healthy sleep clock.

I dont have too much of an issue getting to sleep normally, but I have changed my computer and phone screen settings to drastically reduce blue-light. It reduces strain on your eyes and helps you rest easier. Especially if you're like me and use your phone a lot right before bed :P 10/10 would suggest.

Same as Nyakuni, I have a few characters that I develop at night and my brain probably associates them with sleep haha. I think a good tip is to yea think about OCs or whatever imaginary thing, so you aren't stressed thinking about school/work/other real life events.
Some white noise might also help? I haven't tried this personally but I've heard a lot about. Search around the app store, there's stuff like rain, just static/a light buzz, and so on.

My biggest thing is making sure that the room I use for sleeping is ONLY for sleeping. No TV, no computer, no phone use. It helps trigger my brain to think "oh! we're in this room, so it's sleep time now." I also sleep better when the air temperature is really cold and I can swaddle myself in blankets. To prevent overheating under my thick and fluffy comforter, which would wake me up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night, I switched it for a quilt and just add/subtract blankets as needed. Easier to control the level of warmth in bed and tailor it to your comfort. EDIT: Oh yeah, and I sleep with the white noise of a fan, too! But that's partially because I have tinnitus. :X

go to bed at the same time every night
make sure your bed is comfy (you never sleep well if youre uncomfortable)
and if you need or want it play some white noise, soft instrumentals (i like the sleep tight spotify playlist or the downtempo insutrmentals playlist on youtube music), or a sleep podcast like sleep with me

I dim my lights and turn on blue light filters on my electronics hour before bed. I also go to bed around the same time every night. If I'm having falling asleep, I try breathing in and out deeply and slowly.

I'm not great at falling asleep, but in my experience this is what helps me fall asleep the best. I usually start making up a story in my mind, and distract myself from thinking about sleeping.

i like to read for a couple of hours in order to destress. not being attached to a screen right before bed is the best method i have to getting consistently restful sleep.
